So what happens first?

You may be worried about your child's speech or their teacher has expressed concern about their progress at school. You have come to the right place to find out more.

  • Messages offers a free 20 minute initial consult phone call to discuss your concerns about your child's speech, language and/or literacy skills. This will enable the speech pathologist to find out more information about your child's development and their communication skills and school performance.
  • Then, if necessary, an assessment will be booked which is tailored to your child's specific areas of need.
  • Various documents will be emailed to you, including a detailed case history information document which you will need to complete and return.
  • With permission, the child's teacher will be contacted for their valuable input on your child's communication skills, behavior and performance at school.
  • The assessment will take place (they vary in time from 30 minutes to 2 hours).
  • A summary report will be distributed to parents and relevant others (with consent).
  • Longer assessments require a follow up 30 minute session to discuss the results and recommendations.
  • If recommended, therapy sessions will be booked in on a weekly or fortnightly basis, at a location and time that suits the family.
